Best Beauty Products of 2017!

Hi beautiful readers,

It’s that time- the best beauty products on my list from 2017! This is one of my favourite posts to write all year. Monthly favourites are great, but for a product to make it to the best from the year, it’s got to wow me! Below are my faves.bestof20171

The Recap

2017 was definitely a more natural makeup year for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love being full-on glam, but I found myself feeling totally fine to go into work or even out on a Friday night with barely-there eye makeup and a nice lip colour. I was often reaching for more tried and true products instead of trying a million new ones just for the sake of it. Somehow I still have product overload in my vanity area, but I feel I kept it pretty simple this past year (for my standards anyway!). I also started getting lash extensions this fall, so I found myself not feeling like I had to wear as much eye makeup as before, if at all. More on that topic in another post.

Wet n Wild Photofocus Foundation in ‘Golden Beige’ $7CAD

-Honestly I’ve never expected a drugstore foundation to impress me so much. I had basically sworn off drugstore foundation after several bad experiences, but this one had such rave reviews I had to try it. I honestly fell in love and end up using this now over my Estee Lauder Double Wear. Read my full dupe post/ review on this foundation here.

Josie Maran Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm $36US

-I tried a sample of this and ended up getting a full size of it in a holiday set. This is kind of a hybrid between a cream moisturizer, a luminizer, and a smoothing primer. It just makes you look so healthy and glowing without being overly shiny. It’s gorgeous! See my full review here.

Bourjois Paris Silk Edition Touch Up Translucent Powder $17.67US

-Forget Laura Mercier, forget Nars, forget Kat Von D, this is THE powder for dry skin. You can tell this one is well loved. Its’ so hard for me to find an under-eye setting powder that doesn’t make me look all crepey and wrinkled! This powder just plain works and doesn’t give flash-back either. Bourjois is also owned by Chanel so you know it’s good.

Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer $18CAD

-Love love love. I much prefer the formula of this over Tarte’s famous Shape Tape. Why? It’s cheaper and still super pigmented but doesn’t look heavy on your skin. You can also wear this with lighter coverage products without looking like your under-eyes are crazy full-coverage. I even prefer the formula of this

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in ‘Alaska’ $55CAD

-There are some weeks where I forsake any foundation and just wear this! It really does make your skin look radiant without being shiny or greasy, and it’s sheer-medium coverage so you can still let your skin show through without being self-conscious about unevenness.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in ‘Sand’ $7US

-I’m pretty sure this was in my favourites last year too, oh well!! It’s honestly such a great concealer for your face in such a complimentary shade for light-medium skin tones. I reach for it to conceal redness on my cheeks and chin over my Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer. This one is slightly less full coverage, but it doesn’t look heavy on the skin like Nars’ can.

Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight $27CAD

This was a total fluke product I got as a 100-point perk, and I was shocked at how big of a sample it is. I’ve had this for over 8 months and haven’t gone through it yet! This makes you looks so beautiful and luminous without overly beaming. I dab it onto my fingers from the tube and then pat it over my cheekbones. It’s perfect for the no-makeup-makeup loving girl.

Milani Baked Blush in ‘Luminoso’ $7US

-If you thought Nars Orgasm was good, you NEED to try this. Luminoso is your new best friend. It’s the everyday, any day blush. Even if you don’t like blush, buy this. Just go. Just go do it now.

Paul and Joe Refillable Blush Compact $10US for compact, $18 for refill pan

I honestly am not sure of the shade name for this blush, but if you come across a Paul and Joe counter around spring or summer and you want to try an orange blush that won’t make you look crazy, this is it! I honestly had months where I would wear this everyday no matter what and it just worked. It’s beautiful!

Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer $15US

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, this is practically everyone’s bronzer of the year and for good reason! It’s incredibly smooth and easy to blend without ever looking too harsh on your skin, and the price beats Sephora by miles.

YSL Touche Eclat Lumiere Divine Highlighting Powder $47US *****

This is hands down the BEST natural, effortless, lit-from-within, everyday, glowy, Victoria’s Secret Angel-esque highlighting powder I have EVER bought. If they discontinue this I will spontaneously combust. See my full review here.

L’oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara $10US

-Yes, I’ve joined the masses with this one. This Better Than Sex copy-cat product ended up being way better than Too Faced, with no flakes and lots of length and volume. Best drugstore mascara to come out in a long time. The only thing is the brush is a wee too bulky for my liking on the lower lashes.

Maybelline Brow Precise Fibre Volumizer $9US

-I didn’t luck out with any new brow pencils this past year, but I loved this fluke discovery of a brow mascara. It was literally on sale for $3 at the drugstore and I’m so happy I tried it! I had ZERO expectations but this is my go to product for everyday looks now. It keeps brows in place and enhances just enough without looking too fake.

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in ‘White Russian’ (limited edition packaging) $24CAD

-The perfect minty, tingly, plumpy natural light pink lip gloss for every day!

Sephora Collection Outrageous Effect Volume Lip Gloss in ‘XXL Nude’ $15CAD

-One of my best discoveries of the year hands down. See my full review here.

Buxom Plumpline Lip Liner in ‘Incognito’ $20CAD

-Such an ideal warm nude shade and the thickness of the pencil makes applying all over your lips easy peasy.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in ‘Lolita II’ $24CAD

An oldie but a nothing-can-replace it goodie. Lolita II is the warm-toned lovers (aka me) dream terracotta nude liquid lip.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in ‘Magic Wand’ $6US

-You really don’t need to spend $25+ for a good liquid lipstick anymore and Colourpop is one of the best brands to buy from for lasting yet affordable lip products. The shade Magic Wand is the perfect anytime light nude.

Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick $42CAD incl. tube

-If anyone has been following me since the end of summer, you’ll know I had a mad love affair with this! It’s the creamy lipstick that dreams are made of, in a shade so beautiful it’ll blow your socks off.

There we have it! Are any of these your favourites too? Let me know in the comments!

Yes I can’t believe how long it lasts and it looks exactly like a more expensive foundation on my skin. Thanks for reading! xo J
