Today I’m finally reviewing a very splurge-worthy product: the Hourglass Confession Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipsticks. A mouthful I know! These gold beauties caught my attention right away when they were first released a few months ago (see beauty news post here). The beautiful gold packaging and wide range of perfect nude shades were what drew me in.
These lipsticks are definitely a splurge at $42CAD for the lipstick including gold case, and $28CAD for the 0.9gram lipstick refill alone. At Sephora, I was only able to see the lipsticks with the cases, but online you can buy the refills. These are available in 30 shades with a wide range of neutrals to deep plums and reds. What I love about these is that they are so elegant, they are cruelty-free and the shades are wearable! No oranges, bright turquoise, or neon yellow to be found. This formula is a longwear, satin finish.
If you are planning on buying just one case and then a bunch of refills, you can do this easily by simply pulling the lipstick of out of the gold base. To put refill in the applicator, just pop it in. Once its in, its in and won’t fall out. Personally I’ll probably only buy refills of shades as they run out and buy a case + lipstick with each new shade since they are SO pretty to have on display.

-Elegant, sleek packaging

-Super expensive considering you only get 0.9grams of product

BOTH SWATCH PHOTOS ARE COMPLETELY UNEDITED AND TAKEN NEAR A WINDOW.
Okay, aside from the fact that this lipstick is insanely overpriced considering you don’t even get 1gram of product (MAC lipsticks are 3g, for reference), these are really striking. The packaging is a showstopper and super sleek to fit in your purse, pocket, whatever. The lipstick refills as you can see, are TINY TINY TINY, but I’ve been using the shade ‘Yours to Try’ pretty regularly lately and I haven’t made much of a dent in the product so that’s reassuring. The shades themselves are unbelievably gorgeous.
I do notice that after eating, you really need to reapply as the lipstick almost completely comes off but that’s often the case with satin formulas. Throughout a whole day, you’ll probably need to reapply two or three times. I noticed with ‘Yours to Try’ I did start to get the dreaded lipstick line of buildup in my inner lower lip. That aside, these colours are incredibly beautiful “your lips but better” colours. I’m really really in love with these and I’m usually frugal AF but I can definitely see myself buying more of these gorgeous lipsticks. If you are a looking for a gorgeous collectors product that will make you feel as beautiful as it looks, this is the one.
