NYX Nude Soft Matte Lip Creams & Slim Lip Pencil Review

Hi loves,

I featured nude shades of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and their Slim Lip Pencils in my March Favourites and figured I should review them all for you! I’ve already reviewed the shade ‘Stockholm‘ (my ride or DIE nude) several months ago, but now that I have a few more shades and the lip liner, I wanted to write a more updated review. I do own a few more shades, but wanted to focus on nudes in this review.

I’m reviewing ‘Zurich‘, ‘Cannes‘ and ‘Stockholm‘ for the creams, and ‘Peekaboo Neutral‘ and ‘Ever‘ for the pencils. These soft matte lip creams are more moussey in texture than a typical liquid lipstick, yet they appear matte immediately with a fast drying time. I bought some of this at my local London Drugs, and the rest at NYX Cosmetics Canada online- they finally have an online store!! The soft matte lip creams were $7.99CAN each and the lip pencils were $5CAN each.

Let’s start with the Soft Matte Lip Creams.

-Fast drying time

-No bleeding

-Comfortable wear

-Colour doesn’t transfer

-Affordable AF

-Can apply patchy, may need two layers

-Looks perfect initially but then can make lips look very dry

-Dries the lips over the day

Onto the Slim Lip Pencils.

-Colours are a great match for these shades and many other nudes I own

-Giant shade range (look online, there are tons!)

-No bleeding

-Very matte, filling in the whole lip can take extra effort

Soft Matte Lip Cream: 4/5

I love these. They are so easy to apply and I love the mousse formula. It isn’t a wet mousse so you don’t have to worry about bleeding, and it dries down fast! These are so affordable compared to other matte lip “liquid lipstick” type products. As with all mattes, you will notice your lips get dried out throughout the course of the day, but I’m okay with it. ‘Cannes’ is a beautiful, sultry night-time nude and ‘Cannes’ has more pink tones, while ‘Stockholm’ is an all around beautiful day/night blushed rose-toned nude. These are super transfer-resistant, like incredibly so. The reason I’m not giving these a full 5/5 is because they can go on patchy and do accentuate fine lines in the lips after a few hours.

Slim Lip Pencils: 3.5/5

So, I love the wide range of shades NYX offers for their lip pencils, but I find these to be just a bit too matte. ‘Peekaboo Neutral’ matches with a lot of nude shades in my collection, and ‘Ever’ is a great match with ‘Cannes’ and any other darker nude. They are really great on, but I have to press quite hard to get the colour to apply in the center of my lips. For $5CAN (and $3.50US), I can’t expect the world, but these pencils are a good budget find. You can get like five of them for the price of one Urban Decay lip pencil!

Have you guys tried these products?

We used to love the Soft Matte Lip Creams but now we only buy the NYX Liquid Suedes! The formula is so much better!

Have you tried using a lip balm first, then applying the lip pencil and lip cream over it? It really helps in terms of how drying the lip cream becomes, but doesn’t effect the longevity. Give it a try. I bet you’ll enjoy your lip creams even more! I really enjoyed the post! I have a couple of these lip creams and I agree with you. They are awesome! πŸ‘πŸŒΌπŸ˜€ Have a great day!! πŸŒΌπŸ’™πŸŒΌπŸ’™
