I’ve got a new and exciting product to review for you today- the newest Glow Kit from ABH in collaboration with Youtube beauty guru Nicole Guerriero. Does this glow kit stack up to the quality of those before it? Read on my loves.
This limited-edition glow kit was created by Nicole Geurriero. In case you don’t know who she is, she’s been on Youtube for ages now and has 2.7 million subscribers. She’s known for her ‘Car Ride Chronicles’ vlogs, beauty videos and she’s besties with Carli Bybel. I honestly didn’t buy this because I’m a huge fan (I’ve never loved her enough to subscribe), I just liked the colours. I thought this would be too deep for my light-medium skin, but after watching Youtubers like Jaclyn Hill and Jeffree Star praise this despite their super fair skin, I thought what the hell, add to cart. I paid $52CAD for this online. There’s been some controversy over people getting broken palettes, but I was lucky to get a normal one.
The photo above is taken in natural daylight, the photo below is taken in the same light but with flash.
-Wet-looking like the other ABH highlights
-Six different shades
-The top row of the kit is chunky while the bottom is buttery and smooth
-This palette contains GLITTER. GRR.
-Half the shades (at least) are way too dark for fair-skinned people
-Shades aren’t very cohesive
For comparison’s sake, below I’ve inserted a few swatch photos of one of the original Glow Kits that I have in ‘That Glow’. These are no longer available from Sephora Canada but you can get them from the ABH website.
Above and below- Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit Swatches from ‘That Glow’ Glow Kit, for comparison.
Believe me, I REALLY wanted to like this palette. As you can see above from my swatches from ‘That Glow’, there is no glittery mess to be seen. I cannot say the same about the Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit. The top row (Kitty Kat-Daydream) is gorgeous but all three of the top row shades contain glitter and they were definitely chunky to swatch. The camera may not have picked up just how bad it was, but trust me I am so disappointed by this. Some people may be able to get past that, but for me there’s just no way I’m putting glitter on my face. It just looks cheap. The Youtubers I watched also addressed the glitter issue and yet none said it was noticeable when you applied it. Well, it’s noticeable honey!
The bottom row (Forever Lit-143) is extremely buttery and smooth just like the original glow kits but they still look glittery on the skin. There is an extreme contrast with the shades, as you see how icy ‘Forever Lit’ is, compared to ‘Glo Getter’ and ‘143’ which are more like bronzers on my skintone right now. ‘Kitty Kat’ and ‘Forever Young’ are also very pinky toned, and would almost be good as blush toppers rather than highlighters.
I wish I had waited to see this item in-store and swatch it for myself before purchasing, because I likely wouldn’t have bought it. The colours ARE beautiful to look at and look equally gorgeous on my skin from a distance, but there’s no hiding the glitter all over my face-I would definitely feel self-conscious wearing this on a sunny day. Ugh!! I’m not sure if I can make this work. There’s nothing like spending $52 on a palette to feel cheap.
