What to look for in a great eyeshadow palette
These are the 2018 eyeshadow palettes that we’re most excited to see. They all have their own unique take on the palette format, so to see all of them in one place is a huge privilege. Plus, they are all very good picks and we think you’ll be able to find the one that’s going to work for you.
Each of these palettes has been a labor of love from Tanya, and we’re incredibly proud of what she has managed to pull together here. Each palette is built on our signature formula for excellence: a great eyeshadow palette with a beautiful minimalist design. We’re also confident that with product like this, we can continue to push the envelope on color and create artfully-rendered product for years to come.
All of these palettes were made in-house at NARS Cosmetics, with some very talented collaborators from around the world (including Tobias Knight from NARS Cosmetics and Laura McNally from Make Up For Ever). We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

We’ve been looking forward to the new palette releases from high-end makeup brands this year. The high-end makeup palettes are a great way to take your eyeshadow game to new heights.
Here’s a list of the best of them, plus some we are really excited about. There are several other brand palette releases that we think people will enjoy as well; but if you don’t have your eye on a particular brand, at least try out these 10 palettes!
1. Too Faced Better Than Sex
2. ColourPop Color of the Month: Black Cherry Strap On Eyeshadow Palette
3. NYX Cosmetics Lip Color Palette in Hexadecimal
4. Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (subscription only now)
5. Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette
A few honorable mentions
If you’d like to see a list of 2018 eyeshadow palette releases, I recommend checking out the list by our friends at CodePen.
One of my favorite things to do is to use the CodePen tool Flurry which shows what percentage of users have been using each product in the past 30 days. A friend asked me if I could provide an equivalent to the CodePen data in what I’m sure was a non-geek way — and the first thing that came to mind was:
We have a ton of great products that hit tons of categories, and we need a way of comparing them with each other. We can use data from Flurry or Google/Adsense (which is available as well) but it would be nice if we could also see usage for each product on its own channel.
In this post, I want to share some stats from Flurry for our eyeshadow palettes which show how many people were using each product within their channels:
The above shows how many people on average used each eyeshadow palette over the last 30 days. Take a look at these numbers:
What kind of trends do you notice? What are some things you don’t notice?
Conclusion
2018 was an amazing year for eyeshadow palettes. There were a lot of great releases and the general consensus is that 2018 was the best year ever. We’re not saying we agree, but there are some really great new launches this year that we are super excited about (some of which we have previewed in this space).
Whether you’re shopping or creating your own palette, here are our picks for the best released eyeshadow palettes in 2018.
This is a small palette with 5 shades: 2 matte and 3 shimmer/shimmer hybrid shadows. It contains 5 very unique shades – all of which are wearable and versatile (you can create different looks with them without too much effort). They can be used as eyeshadow alone or as a base for other makeup products.
We hope to see more from this collection in 2019!
I really like these two shades, both from the same brand (Glamour Girl), but with very different finishes. The first one is more opaque and bolder than the second one. They both work well for day to day looks as well as for nights out (when you want something a little more flashy). These two shades also work well together if you layer them on top of each other to create a gradient effect at different points on your lid! You may not have seen them used together yet, but they are definitely worth keeping an eye on!
Both of these shades have been released recently by LORAC – they have gorgeous, creamy textures and look so good applied as eyeshadow alone! I use them as an eyeshadow base all over my lids when I’m trying to get something less intense on my crease (but still pretty intense!). You can create mattes and shimmers on top of these shadows (they will become softer over time) or use them alone to create dramatic dramatic looks. They don’t tend to go on sheer at first when applied; it takes around 10 coats for the shadow to fully apply – but if you wait for it to dry down it will get even easier! I would suggest waiting at least 24 hours before applying these over another shadow because their texture tends to lose some of its shine after 24 hours – so save up your time ? .
This tiny palette contains 4 matte blushes: two browns, two pinks and one red. They all offer a subtle shimmering effect when applied to the eyelid – making them
