I thought I’d share a recap of my New York trip- beauty edition of course! Amidst sightseeing and photo taking, I’ve had a few moments to sneak away to indulge my love affair with makeup.
I stumbled into a Sephora on the first day…what can I say it was near my hotel, but I was legitimately looking for something I can’t get in Canada! The Olivia Polermo x Ciate Smokey Suedes eyeshadow palette.
I saw it online somewhere and fell in love. It’s super chic and sleek in size. Unfortunately, Sephora Canada doesn’t haven’t it and won’t even ship it from the US site. I immediately beelined to the Ciate display.
While the shadows were truly buttery and gorgeous, exactly as a ‘suede’ eyeshadow would feel, I was a bit let down. The colours weren’t as vivid in person and many of them reminded me of taupey and metallic shades found in the Naked 2, Too Faced Natural Matte, and Everything Nice (holiday 2014) palettes that I already own. I decided to be responsible and not buy it.
Next on my list was Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow and liquid lipstick!! We don’t get them in Canada so I headed to Macy’s mid-trip to find them. Being Xmas and being Anastasia, of course many of the liquid lipstick shades were sold out! I was able to snag one beautiful red shade however, and made a custom eyeshadow quad as well. Stay tuned for that!
I must say the customer service at the Anastasia counter was pretty terrible. One employee literally was doing her entire makeup routine in front of a mirror and didn’t acknowledge me. The other two were just standing and chatting.
I needed makeup remover as there were swatches all over my hands (obviously), and when I asked for it one associate handed me a bottle of baby oil in silence-no tissues along with it, and went back to counting stock! It was definitely a WTF moment. The lady who rang me through was pretty nice at least and they only one who was actually helping people. I guess since they know how popular their brand is they feel like they don’t have to try?
On my next stop, I found myself in Chelsea exploring. It’s a super trendy neighbourhood and the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Katie Holmes live there. I even saw Jeff Daniels (blonde guy from Dumb and Dumber) walking with shopping bags from DVF! I loved the Chelsea market. There were so many cute, Etsy-like vendors and the most busy of them was this stand of perfectly sarcastic makeup bags.
I vaguely recall seeing the name in magazines, and the slightly snooty lady inside informed me it’s a New York company using pure perfumes. This explains their whopping $300 perfumes and $110 candles…I would have loved to bring a bottle home but not at the price! Sticking with my $60 bottle of D&G Light Blue for now.
