How is everyone??? I’ve been wanting to share this dupe post for SO long and finally I’m sitting down and writing. I always felt like the Dior Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss was a cult favourite product. Some of my friends use it, and I always saw it in the quintessential IG flatlay. I finally took the plunge and $41CAD later I had it in my hands. Not everything hyped up is actually that great, so read on to see my honest thoughts, and the product I discovered to be a complete, and better dupe.
DIOR LIP MAXIMIZER PLUMPING GLOSS DEETS:
Okay, before I get into the dupe, let’s go over what the Dior Maximizer Plumping Gloss is all about. For 6mL, this plumping gloss will set you back $41CAD. Holy shit. This comes in three sheer shades- a completely sheer ‘Pink’, a more neutral pink ‘Apricot’, and ‘Beige Sunrise’. This has a blend of collagen (not an expensive ingredient, btw) marine fillers and hyaluronic acid spheres to fill in lines and help plump the lips. The Sephora description of this product explicitly states “After just 15 days of use, your lips will look noticeably fuller and more defined”.
They also claim that the product will give you a tingly sensation rather than an intense burning feeling. I picked up the shade 006 ‘Beige Sunrise’ as I prefer to have a light wash of colour in my glosses rather than a completely sheer finish, and the other two shades swatched completely sheer.
MY HONEST THOUGHTS:
At first, I was honestly impressed by the pretty packaging but then instantly disappointed in everything else. The doe-foot applicator is SO small that it takes a few times to apply the product all over your mouth, rather than a one and done swipe over the lips.
Yes the tingly feeling is nice but its extremely subtle. I do appreciate how the product doesn’t burn because I’m super not down with those type of plumpers. The actual ‘plumping’ action of this is minimal at best, and the tingly feeling almost a psychological touch to make me think the product is working.
One thing I can’t stand about this gloss is it’s so so freaking DRYING. Every time I use it, without fail my lips are extremely dry after and I need to use a full on lip scrub and lip mask to remedy this at the end of the day. For $41, I expect my lips to look plump and sexy, not shiny and then feeling dry.
Lastly, aside from the ghastly price, this plumping gloss does not last long whatsoever. Some glosses you can get away with for 2 hours before reapplying, some 1.5hrs, but this gloss literally lasts like 4 minutes! It just disappears. I don’t even know how!
MY $15 DUPE THAT’S BETTER THAN THIS PRODUCT:
Okay guys, some of you may already know what I’m gonna talk about….but as soon as I tried the Dior Lip Maximizer, instantly I thought, “But isn’t my $15 Sephora holy grail gloss 10000x better than this?” Yup. Look no further than the Sephora Collection Outrageous Effect Volume Lip Gloss. I’ve literally gone through three of these in the past 6 months, so what does that tell ya?
This plumping gloss is better in every single way– the applicator is curved and hugs the lips for one-swipe all-over application. The tingly effect is stronger (but still pleasant) and the plumping action is there!! I had a girl ask if I had my lips done once when I had this on and I whipped out the gloss to show her. This also lasts longer between applications and doesn’t dry my lips out like Dior’s formula does. The kicker as well is that the Sephora Collection gloss is 2.5x cheaper, better, and you actually get about the same amount of product as well (5ml for Sephora, 6ml for Dior).
