I recently shared in my $500 Sephora VIB Rouge Sale Haul that I picked up this gift set from Josie Maran- the Argan Beauty Canvas gift set. I love that so many value sets come out for Christmas and I was so excited to try more products from Josie Maran as I love natural beauty (when it works!). So what did I think of this set? Read on.

I bought this for $59CAD ($45US) from Sephora and it includes one full-size (15g) of the Argan Finishing Balm as well as a travel size (5g), a travel size of the Argan Moonstone Drops Highlighting and Priming Oil (11.8ml) and a mini size (1.7g) of the Argan Sting Lip Plumping Butter in the exclusive ‘Be it Boysenberry’ shade. This set is valued at $79US. These products are formulated with luxe, good for you ingredients like shea butter, argan oil (obvs), lemongrass oil, moringa oil and beeswax.
The Argan Finishing Balm is a ‘skincare and makeup hybrid‘ to smooth and moisturize before makeup application. I’ve never tried a product like it! The Moonstone Drops can be used before makeup for extra dewiness or on top of makeup for extra highlighting. The Argan Sting lip butter is meant to be used several times per day to maintain a healthy, plumped appearance.
-I love that you get a full size of the Argan Finishing Balm
-Finishing Balm is super moisturizing and luminous without being oily
-The Argan Moonstone Drops make the skin look beautifully radiant
-Argan Sting Butter is very moisturizing and comfortable to wear
-Argan Lip Sting Butter does plump the lips (but not dramatically)
-Josie Maran is a cruelty free brand
THESE PHOTOS CAPTURE WHAT THE HIGHLIGHT DROPS LOOK LIKE WHEN DROPPED ON SKIN (ABOVE), AND BLENDED INTO SKIN (BELOW).
-I wish instead of a travel size of the same product they already included, they added something different
-The highlighting drops feel quite oily on the skin
-Highlighting drops are extremely runny
-Argan Lip Sting colour that is included in the set isn’t very wearable
-Argan Lip Sting colour looks patchy and is difficult to make even
ABOVE IS AN UNEDITED SWATCH, LAYERED THREE TIMES.
Overall I do like this set but I’m not over the moon. I think it’s a bit silly they included not only a full size of the Argan Finishing Balm, but also a travel size as well. I would’ve loved to try another product from her range instead. It will be nice to bring the small size on trips, but I really won’t be using it until I travel. The Finishing Balm itself is unlike any primer I’ve ever used and is A+++ fabulous. It’s got kind of a whipped face cream formula that moisturizes the skin and gives it luminosity without being formulated with any micro-glitters that may enhance texture. I’ve never tried Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base, but I’ve heard it’s similar to this.
The Moonstone Highlighting Drops are okay definitely not a product I would go out of my way to buy. I would advise to use them as a primer on dry skin for a dewy base, but on oily skin I could see these being a nightmare. The drops are very runny and I would not go out of my way to apply these over foundation. The run all over my face and I could just see them ruining my makeup if I tried to place them in key areas. They do make my skin look pretty but its slightly oily to the touch.
The Argan Sting Lip Plumping Butter I really like, but I hate the shade they included!! It’s a sheer berry tone but as you can tell from the swatch, it applies patchy and needs to be layered several times. The weird thing is this shade isn’t even available for purchase from Sephora or from Josie Maran’s website, they just included it with this set. I don’t understand whyyyy they wouldn’t just use one of the pre-existing nude, wearable shades! I really do enjoy this product but I don’t want to leave the house with this ugly colour on my lips. Grrrr. If they used a nude lip colour, I would’ve scored this set higher.
I honestly think you’d be better off saving yourself and buying the Argan Finishing Balm on its own, and the Argan Lip Sting in a better colour.
