Sephora haul part 2

Sephora haul part 2

Intro

The Josie Maran VIBRANGLY palette ($40) is the perfect introduction to the brand for women who have never owned a matte lipstick. The shade range falls under the category of “neutral” or “matte” and while they’re not exactly neutral, they do provide a pretty good amount of color payoff with minimal coverage. The formula is highly pigmented, but you can build up the intensity using a slight amount of wear.

The formula is also extremely easy to apply, which makes it ideal for those who aren’t used to carrying around multiple lip products in their purse.

It also provides a very even color payoff across all lips, which makes it ideal for almost any dry skin type.

One thing I like about this palette is that you can use any foundation underneath it and it will still work great as a vegan matte lip product which doesn’t break my bank at $40 (or $60 for the bronze/matte shade).

Another thing I like about this palette is that it comes with two separate pots: one for your base colour (which can be any shade from the range) and another pot for your top colour (which can be any shade from the range). If you want to add an extra layer of color or just make your base lighter, you can flip them over and use them as a double-dose of pigments which I really like doing if I have time. It also makes removing them super easy since there are no brush marks on them whatsoever!

The Packaging:

This is a review of the Josie Maran Vibrance Palette. I’ve written lots about this palette, both before and since it was released so I won’t spend time explaining how it works (and perhaps too much time doing that). What I will do instead is to describe what I like about the product and why I think it’s worth buying.

The palette contains 8 shades of powder, which are described as “Good for all skin types, even oily skin”. The colors are described as being “warm-toned, with a hint of red or warm orange to add warmth to your complexion”. They have a very light shimmery finish which I find works well on my medium/oily skin and are easy to apply with a balm brush (which also has decent coverage). There is also a matte version but it has no shimmer in it (the shimmer comes from the powder).

The palette contains 6 eyeshadows, which are named in order: Bare Eyebrow – A warm rose color with a bit of sparkle; Dark Brown – A brown that leans toward green; Dark Pink – A rich taupe color; Coffee Bean – An espresso brown with slight hints of red; Sapphire – A cool beige that leans toward blue; Smokey Eye – A smokey brown with purple hints.

The shadows can be used wet or dry and have a variety of finishes ranging from sheer to opaque. They blend out easily but aren’t completely opaque (they look more like powders than pressed shadows) so you may need to use some blending tools such as the Multi-Purpose Blending Brush for the shadows to get them perfectly blended out.

These shades were chosen because they were slightly warmer versions of my favorite products from other manufacturers such as Makeup Geek, Huda Beauty and Too Faced. These are great for warmer days when you want something bright-toned but not too harsh on your skin tone: they don’t just look good but also blend well and don’t clog pores or make them look dirty (especially when used dry — my favorite thing about this palette is how pigmented they are without having any powderiness).

I have been using these shadows for over 3 months now (I haven’t tried any other brand’s shadows so this review will be incomplete) and really enjoy using them — most often though, I prefer applying them wet

The Palette and Its Colors

A palette is a collection of colors that are grouped into color families. The word palette also means a set of marked-out squares that can be used to distinguish between similar colors.

In the same way as a sketchbook is a place for drawing, a palette is a place for painting. It’s where you can make choices about the colors you want to use and the textures that you want to create.

A palette has been an important part of art history since ancient times. It was at the heart of old masterpieces from Raphael, Raphael’s school of painting and many others. The word palette originated in Ancient Greece and was first used in the 17th century by artists who used it for their works. In 1775, there were around 5,000 different types of palettes available including those made from shells or bark cloth, wax tapers and so on.

To understand how palettes work we have to go back to Plato’s Republic which discusses art as something that should be done with small objects (palettes) chosen with care under natural light:

The philosopher says, ‘I do not approve of my women spending all their time making beautiful palettes out of shells or leaves because it is unnatural for them to look at such things. They must take care only with those whereon they will have good eyesight when they are older; then they will have plenty to look at; but it is not right that they should spend every day and all their lives gazing at them…’

The philosopher then explains that we should use palettes only when we feel inspired by nature: when we see something beautiful before our eyes, let us follow its lead…

Plato emphasized creativity over reason by making the distinction between what he considered “good art” (in which men could rely upon reason) versus “bad art” (which requires imagination). He believed that true art required all three: (1) seeing what nature does not show us; (2) hearing what nature does not say; and (3) feeling what nature does not imply… Men who do these things well are called artists; those who do them badly are called fools… [They] know how much better their work must be than [those] who are unworthy – but they know nothing about themselves – so they cannot judge themselves – nor can they judge anything else – until they have tried everything…

Swatches

I love the vibrancy palette. I’ve never been a huge fan of the brand, but this is a great sample of what it can do. It’s a beautiful palette, though more expensive than you might expect for such a small palette. If you like true pinks (and how could you not) then it is worth the money.

I think this is perfect for my personal style — lighter colors that add depth to skin tones and highlighters.

It comes with a nice big mirror too, which is always helpful if you are trying to get the right placement of color on your face.

The palette itself has six different colors (two shades and four hues) that all have four different finishes: matte, satin, pearl and sparkle. The matte is definitely my favorite because it applies relatively evenly to skin without leaving behind too much shine or feeling tacky. There are other finishes in the range but I went with matte because this absolutely works for me — even on my oily skin — and doesn’t leave any weird looking globs or white patches under makeup (like some mattes do).

I won’t be able to give an honest review after trying it out myself because I am only one person, so all opinions are based on my own experience with this product and my own personal opinions. But as someone who loves true pinks and shiny things, I can tell you that this palette has definitely been life-changing for me!

What I Think of the Product

I have been using josie maran’s vibrancy palette for a couple of months now and I think it is an excellent product. I am also a huge fan of the brand, so I think this is a great endorsement for them and their products.

I started out with the (newer) shade, “The Vibe” and loved it! It was so flattering and made me feel like a million bucks.

I was looking for something that was going to give me the same vibrancy as this shade does, but without the addition of all those extra ingredients. If you are already a fan of josie maran, this is definitely worth checking out!

I also love that there are so many shades available – you can mix and match to create your own unique look.

It has become my favorite palette! The packaging is lovely too – sleek, sleek, sleek!  (takes me back to my love affair with beauty powder in the 80s).

And finally… There are so many beautiful colors available to choose from!! I am in love with everything I have tried. And as someone who loves color on every level (both in makeup and in fashion), I absolutely adore that they offer all shades of brown/black/green/orange to choose from. This is such a huge plus for people who like subtle color on their cheeks or lips… You can’t go wrong with any color ?

Conclusion

There is no question about it: josie maran’s vibrancy palette has been one of the most talked-about beauty products of the last year. We truly believe this product is the answer to all of our skin problems, especially since we are seeing a lot of people trying it out, and loving it.

After reading through this review, you will come up with your own opinion. As we’ve mentioned earlier, josie maran’s vibrancy palette comes in three different shades (which means there are three different ways to use it). It is a unique product that not only helps you achieve a flawless look but also gives you more options on how to create the perfect complexion for you.

I personally am using it as a base and then using two other shades for contouring and highlighting. I find that I can achieve a more natural look with just these two shades, but if I want to get into contouring mode or highlight mode then I use “pigtails” which are actually highlights that morph into darker hues depending on where they land on your skin. You have the option of creating your own shade combinations by mixing and matching these pigtails together so you can create those subtle glowy looks or those dramatic contouring looks. But…

One thing that really impressed me about this palette was how well everything blended together (the pigtails) as opposed to anything else in my collection where things just sort of slapped one another together without much blending power. It is definitely worth having if you love eye shadows because I think it definitely can help take your base game up another notch! For $40 (available at Sephora), this is one beauty product you should not pass up!
